“Vem är Jorth Gar?
Who is Jorth Gar? We are Jorth Gar!
Vi är Jorth Gar!”
Jorth Gar Living History Society (pronounced “yorth gar”) is a historical reenactment group focusing on the life and combat of the Varangian Guard: Viking & Eastern mercenaries serving in the Eastern Roman Empire, with our focus on the 10th & 11th centuries. We are a branch of the NVG, or New Varangian Guard.
Our group appears at shows and events all across South-East Queensland, with a goal to share knowledge with the public on how the peoples we portray dressed, fought, ate, and lived.

Our warriors train in fighting with sword, sabre, shield, spear, axe, and more – safely learning and practicing the full-contact sport of reenactment fighting. Combat trainings are held weekly on the Gold Coast and Tamborine Mountain areas of South-East Queensland; our Northern division is located and trains in North Rockhampton, and we have members as far south as Stanthorpe.
Jorth Gar also has a host of artisans skilled in Viking Age crafts such as blacksmithing, woodworking, music, weaving and textiles, leathercraft, archery, and cooking.
We are always looking for new members – please contact us if you’re interested in joining!
